Kakano Fund
The Kakano Fund was established in 1985. The Association of Social Anthropologists of Aotearoa/New Zealand administers this fund. It has been set up to assist graduate students in Social Anthropology who are completing theses or dissertations.
Kakano Fund Awards 2006/7
The Kakano Fund was established in 1985 by the Association to assist graduate students in Social Anthropology who are completing theses or dissertations.
Applications are invited from students enrolled in a degree course for an M.A. in Social and Cultural Anthropology
Students are eligible for an award if their course requires the completion of a single thesis, a dissertation, or a research portfolio, and if the date of final submission of their work falls within the period of 25 March 2006 to 25 March 2007. The fund provides financial assistance towards PRODUCTION COSTS, e.g. printing, photocopying, binding, transcripts, or reproducing photographs. The maximum amounts awarded are $250 per applicant. The actual amounts awarded may be lower, depending on funding levels and number of applications.
Deadline for applications and letters of support
Friday October 13th 2006
Applications must be made by ordinary mail and include
- Personal and contact details (including postal address)
- Thesis details: title and abstract (half a page); planned date of submission; name of supervisor(s)
- Budget: providing the total amount of assistance sought and the purpose for which the funds will be used, supported by quotations or pricelists for all budget items.
In addition
Applicants need to ask their main supervisor to provide them, in a sealed envelope, a brief letter of support which includes a clear statement of the merit of the thesis and of the application. This letter must be included with the application. Without it, the application is incomplete.
